SpongeBong HempPants & The Stoner Stereotype

Posted on

Putting a classic twist on the fan favourite Spongebob, SpongeBong HempPants is both funny and nostalgic. The animators obviously had spent quite a bit of time trying to make the show seem as similar to the original SpongeBob as possible. Even down to the voice actors, this rendition of the show could be mistaken for the original, if not for the constant stoner vibes.

Negative stereotype

Although this animation series was made over 8 years ago, most cannabis enthusiasts will think that it still gives a very negative image of the typical cannabis user. Whether the viewer has never consumed cannabis before or is a full-time medical patient, the show paints a very negative picture of the so-called “stoner”. We understand that the show is a total comedic take on the original, and has no seriousness in its entirety, but the premise still stands.

Here at HERB, we aim to smash the stereotype that accompanies cannabis use and to create a culture that embraces the wonderful plant. Unfortunately, SpongeBong HempPants goes in the entirely wrong direction, but we thought it’d still be funny to show you what it’s all about.
