Migos’ Offset Released From Jail Following Arrest On Weed, Gun Charges

Offset, one-third of rap group Migos, has reportedly returned home to his wife and fellow rapper, Cardi B, following an arrest that occurred last Friday evening in Jonesboro, Georgia.

The 26-year-old rapper was pulled over by the Atlanta Police Airport Division after an improper lane change while driving his 2014 Porsche Carrera. Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was driving the vehicle with his bodyguard Senay Gezahgn, who was also arrested.

As Variety points out, a vehicle search took place after the arresting officer noticed the smell of cannabis in the car, leading to the discovery of three handguns, $107,000 in cash, and less than an ounce of cannabis in the vehicle.

Because of Offset’s history of legal disputes, the charges against the rapper were more severe. In 2015, the rapper spent time in jail on drug and firearm charges. In 2016, he was caught driving with a suspended license.

Now, Offset faces two felonies—possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime—in addition to two misdemeanors—marijuana possession and an improper lane change. The next morning, the rapper’s bail was posted for $17,000, seeing his immediate release.

Offset’s lawyer, Drew Findling, whose clients include notable superstars such as Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane, provided a statement saying his client’s arrest was unjust. He told People Magazine that Offset did not commit a traffic offense and did not have any firearms. He also told People that the rapper’s primary concern is his new wife, Cardi B, and their newborn child Kulture.

The power couple welcomed their daughter on July 11th.
